Hello, I'm Jennifer Hanke.
Understanding Interdisciplinary Studies
My journey to becoming an Interdisciplinary Studies student has been interesting; I have always been inquisitive by nature, which has influenced my path. When I started my college education, I was always a little torn by which direction I would go. I knew I loved being around and helping other people find their passion. I enjoy gaining knowledge about many different subjects and then sharing that knowledge with others in a way that they can understand and utilize. Becoming an Interdisciplinary Studies major allows me to pursue knowledge from multiple different disciplines and get a good understanding of how to intertwine them to build new ideas and solve complex problems between the disciplines.
When I began studying interdisciplinarity methods, I found myself most interested in the proper research process or the broad model. To justify what makes a problem require an interdisciplinarity focus, we must first understand the complexity of the problem and why multiple different disciplines are required to solve it. Working through this thought process really helped for me to understand how I can weave my knowledge of computer science, education, and biological science to solve real world complex problems; like How to properly educate students about the environment so they can have the knowledge to create 21st century resolutions to better the world we live in.
As I continue learning about what it means to be an Interdisciplinary Studies student, I look forward to the challenge ahead and already have some ideas on how I can extend my knowledge on the research process and develop an answer to some of the complex problems that involve my disciplines of interest.
